IC's New Staff Member & Tech Tips

Happy Monday, August 5! Institutional Computing would like to introduce you to our new staff member Tristan Plummer. Tristan is IC's Technology Support Liaison and is located in the basement of Smith Library on Main Campus in Room 41. Tristan joins Outdoor Express RV where he managed their website and maintained their office computers. Tristan has also taught English in a kindergarten class in Shanghai, China.  He holds a Bachelor of Art degree from the West Virginia University.  Tristan will be providing Blackboard support, informing you about technology on this blog, and much more. Please stop by to say hello to Tristan. In a few months you will find Tristan traveling around campus with Devon Taylor to make getting Blackboard (Bb) support easier.

Annotate the Web with Diigo
Diigo is a browser extension / web service that allows you to highlight and annotate any webpage you can find.  This includes news articles, recipes, pdf's, etc... Just about anything on a website can be marked up using this very handy tool.  The possibilities are endless.  Need to highlight a pdf file on the web? Want to save a great article for reading later?  Both are possible with this extension.  Want to see it in action? Click the link for a video walkthrough.

Keyboard Shortcut Life Saver - Spotlight
A feature of OS X is the Spotlight search.  This quick search tool on a Mac allows you to find anything on your computer, be it a email, calendar event, document, application, etc...  With two clicks on your keyboard you can search everywhere! This handy tool searches for documents, applications, files, folders, preferences... You name it, Spotlight will probably find it!  Click the link for a short video on how to use this great feature!
